Just like it started many months ago, PIR left us for 2010 as it found us – wet and cold. And the race ended with good results and then retiring to HQ for beer and laughs. It was a bit of an off kilter farewell, seeing as we were out to defend our 1st place in the month series and move up our 4th place rider to 2nd, those being Carver and Penner. The problem was we showed up in force, and the rain kept most people away so we had the numerical advantage and how. Seeing this opportunity we started attacking immediately and snapped off Robbie and Dave at lap 3 with 2 others. They were joined by Penner a lap later and the quintet stayed away for the race, with Penner winning a sweet Corsa Concept wheelset and the race, with Robbie and Dave not contesting 2nd and 3rd place to their break mates.

who in the hell ordered rain?

Harwood duked it out alone on his own in the 1/2/3 and reports that it was the usual rapid fire attack pattern. I think the old boy is tired.

Afterward we retired for beer and lightsabers. Lana cut everyone to pieces, because Lana has the force.

Harwood and Conley enjoy their last moments on earth

Many thanks to OBRA for all their hard work this year in keeping the best weekly series of the summer running smoothly, and a special thanks to all the teams and riders who kicked our ass all year long.

Last night we had Shaun in the 4/5 scoring a fine 3rd place, and Dave in the 1/2/3, slotting 18th on the cool evening and the last Monday PIR of the season.

After tonight’s final PIR (which looks to leave 2010 all wet, which is how it greeted us) that’ll be all she wrote for our road program 2010. Then it will be time to unleash the Wolf of Portland. We’re not buying the Lion of Flanders stuff, or the tricolor, or the fries, (they’re fries….not fritjes. They’re fritjes when you’re in Belgium. You’re in Portland.) or learning bits of Flemish. Besides, as The Great DiStefano pointed out, the Dutch are the better ‘Cross riders anyhow.

So let loose the Wolf of Portland. Set your course for mud. And yes, we have a very special skinsuit debuting for you this year. If you liked (and by liked we mean cringed, and remember that was the point) last year’s creamsicle death mango suits, you’ll love these. And yes, we plan on carrying on the Hand Down with great regularity.

We’ll recap tonight’s race, then a short break, then we’ll be back with our regular barrage of updates, news, and photos.

For now, here’s a cute and cuddly.

Another Monday/Tuesday combo, with only one more left for the season. Monday had Koller and Joe L. swinging in the 4/5, both with pack finishes.

UPDATED – A good batch of photos from Brody at Tuesday’s PIR RIGHT HERE.

Tuesday saw a ton of us out there on a hot night working to solidify our month’s goal – to win the series for August in the 3/4. We think, think (abacus being out and all fingers and toes counted) we have 1st and 2nd in the monthly series, but we’re not 100% sure. The race itself was a “Luciano Special” with extra cheese and onions, being “every lap is a hot lap” and it WAS hot. Really hot. Phew. We pulled it off somehow though, notching 4 riders in the top ten. But there was a lot of great riding from the whole field though. Good, clean, tough racing. Sad to think PIR is almost over for another year.

in the shadows, where we belong

Howard the Goat notched a fine finish in the 1/2/3, slotting 5th in the scrum to the line.

PIR tonight. Defending a series lead. Making a little movie (without the goat, or so we think). Should be a good night.
In the meantime, thank you, and then thank you again. And this isn’t too shabby either. Nor is this.

Really tough races in the Mst 30-39, Cat 4, and Cat 3 races for us. Shaun Conley nabbed we think somewhere between 8th and 10th in a stacked 4’s race, all by his lonesome. The best efforts of the Cat 3 team were foiled in the end by a well timed break away that stuck to the end, despite Joel, Harwood, and Dan’s efforts to bring it back to set up Crawfy for a sprint.

Anna “The Ace” Christensen took what the defense gave her, and with the help of Brianna Walle and Anona Whitley, soloed away early in the inaugural Franz Bakery Crit to take a fine, FINE win in the 1/2/3 women’s race. Brianna stuck a fine sprint to take 3rd, putting two on the podium. In the 3’s men we had Dave and Penner, with Penner scoring 6th, and Dave doing what he does best – finishing dead fucking last. Hooray! In the 1/2 men’s race we had Trevor swinging and finishing strong. A light showing, but a great race and we’re happy to leave with a win and two top tens.

Ever go to a party where you know that with just a few more beers, clothes are coming off and the music volume is going up? Yeah. We know you have. We’re not really sure what happened last night at the housewarming party for Anona, Dan, Lana, and The Ace, but upon eye-opening this morning, there are hand prints on bodies, wrong clothes on the wrong people, and a bunch of folks late for work. And hatchets in heads. There were games, too. Like Sack Slap and Eat The Butter Spoon. You could look for things to blame, so we looked back through the camera, which was loaded with questionable images. Stay on a cycling team long enough and you’re guaranteed in one fashion or another to see each other naked. Usually changing at races or at the hotel at a race. Not a rocket fueled, cop-luring dance party at 3 am. Or maybe so.

see, there’s your problem right there

Everyone had a grand old time, and everyone spent some time carrying Anona around. You should try that some time. Folks got closer and lost clothes or had them forcibly removed, and the Howitzer beats had the police circling the house like curious sharks. Why the fuck do these sorts of things happen to us? Because we’re idiots. That’s why.

everybody huddle up, soon it is time that we dance

The house is sufficiently warmed, we think, and no such gathering should go without the Gaelic inspired “Joe Martin Toss”. Here’s Dan Penner’s winning effort clad in his traditional kitchen apron, throwing Joe Martin a distance of 1.8 meters in the hastily concocted living room playing field.

silly tan lines all around

We hope, sincerely hope, everyone made it home ok. And yes, those underwear aren’t yours. There are a few more pictures right here. The rest will never, ever see the light of day, except for blackmail purposes.

Good things come do they. Tuesday saw a bunch of the black and yellow in the 3/4 race at PIR. We kept cracking at it until we sprung Robbie with a few laps to go. A neutral helped spring the move with about 4 or 5 guys to start, with Robbie going away on his own toward the end. Crawfy, fresh off a 20 hour flight from Bangkok, reopened his system and swiped some points in Plan B. The assist was in numbers, with Crouch and Gerow spending a lot of time patrolling the front, while Aldersebaes, Conley, Koller, Clark, Sanders, Penner, and thesis champion Weber did all the spadework. 1st and 3rd. Good times.

Good weekend coming up with the inaugural Franz Bakery crit, then down to Albany for State Crit Champs. Good luck and safety to all.

Having no pictures, here’s an unrelated image from a few weeks back from Team Cthulu’s Jose Sandoval, BRUTAL!
