Crawford 2nd at Mississippi Crit!

Crawfy netted a superb 2nd place at the Cirque du Cycling crit in the Cat 3 race. The team played their cards to perfection and actuated all the real fighting all race long to leaving Crawfy to stay safely tucked in to top 10 wheels to wait for the jump. Playing for the bunch sprint, we sent Monnig out as the sacrificial lamb, but the sacrifice ended up being an all race affair, as the lanky horse went in three significant breaks, one of them a solo break netting him a $50 prime.

Excellent team efforts by Dezellum, Sanders, Voytilla, Willis, and Monnig all aided in the final placing by Mark in the end.

David “The Horse” Monnig had a superb ride

An unknown from out of town snatched victory from seemingly out of nowhere, while Mark gapped the field with a finishing kick to take 2nd place by a few lengths. A large contingent of teammates sat on the back side of the course and waged war on Olympia tall boys and a flask of Maker’s Mark, just for good measure. Whiskey normally ensures some solid heckling, and this night was no exception.

Well done, Crawfy!

Pictures up at the Flickr site. So go check ‘em out. And a speedy get well to a busted up Jeff Standish (TAI) who went down pretty hard and popped a few ribs and fractured his leg. Shitfire! Heal up, Jeff.

Great showing at the crit guys, it was definitely a fun race to watch. This article struck my curiosity about this “unknown from out of town” who won the race by a good margin. I thought it was peculiar that the announcer seemed very familiar with him, but he is “unknown from out of town.” I found out that his name is Joe Dengel, and coincidentally enough he is from Portland, but currently is a full time student at Oregon State University. Good luck with season to come, great showing at the Cirque Du Cycling crit.
