Great race tonight, but sadly an on-form Harwood – who had taken two hot spots already -got taken out by getting hooked in the final sprint. Prior to that finishing sprint wreck, another wreck happened with bars catching a rear rack. Please folks, no racks in races. If you wear one, stay in the back. Silly and unsafe, plain and simple.
In the end Crawfy ended up with 2nd place on the night as the team pieced together the remnants of a late race break and some charging sprinters coming around the wreck.
A get well to Harwood, who got his bell rung pretty good in his crash.
UPDATE: Poor ol’ Harwood is out some bucks as his helmet, front wheel, and brand new kit are all trashed. However, after some follow up X-Rays on the ribs and shoulder, he’s got the all clear. No breaks, no fractures, no nothing. And while when he rapped his head pretty hard, sadly nothing was put back into the right place, so he’s still the same ol’ Harwood. Can’t win ‘em all.
Thank for you for the classy comments ye Portland Velo and Sunset Cycles sortsand others, awful sporting of you.
It was shaping up to be a great sprint finish between Harwood and I, and the crash messed that all up! Jeff, get well soon. I know what it’s like to get your bell rung. Hopefully there aren’t any other serious injuries in addition.
Jeff,
Hope everything checks out okay, was scary and very sad seeing you go down right next to me after watching you ride very strong all race.
You guys brought the pain tonight, just a bad break at the end.
Ya! Tough racing w/ you guys- coming out strong, organized and hungry. sorry it got all bunged up at the end. Get well all.
Sounds like someone should have a pretty strong position for proposing OBRA amend their rules to prohibit racks in races…..
Thanks for the push Dave. I owe you.
I was super bummed to see that big crash and the other crash on the final lap. Get well soon Jeff, we all know you were owning everybody all night.
what a night…
Jeff,
Sorry to hear about your crash, hope everything is going well! Get well soon!
